4-Year-Old's Preschool Teacher To Give Kidney to Boy's Dad: 'She's An Amazing Lady'
Their surgery is set for next month.
An Iowa teacher is going way above and beyond the call of duty and donating a kidney to her student’s dad.
Darreld Peterson said his 4-year-old son’s preschool teacher, Nancy Bleuer, 54, immediately jumped at the chance to give him the life-saving organ.
In January, Peterson found out that his kidney was only functioning at 20 percent and he immediately began dialysis.
“Camden [his son] mentioned something while he was in school. His teacher ended up asking me about,” Peterson told InsideEdition.com. “When she found out, she started doing the paperwork immediately.”
Peterson had been on Dialysis and was initially offered a kidney after being on the waiting list but that option fell through, leaving the dad discouraged.
But then Bleuer turned out to be a match.
Bleuer, a teacher at Washington Charlie Brown Preschool and Childcare, said she is really excited about being able to help Peterson.
“I was ecstatic. I don't know what I would've done for closure if I wasn't [a match],” Bleuer told ABCNews.
Their surgeries are scheduled for June 1.
“She’s an amazing lady and from day one she was gungho. Camden gets the idea that Ms. Nancy is helping his dad," Peterson said.
