An elite team of Navy SEALs conducted the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound, ending the hunt for the terrorist mastermind. INSIDE EDITION talks to one former Navy SEAL officer about the men who are known as the best of the best.
They're American heroes! The elite team of Navy SEALs who took Osama bin Laden out.
It looked like something out of the movie Black Hawk Down. Two blackhawk helicopters ferried America's most elite warriors into bin Laden's compound. They swooped down, shot him in the head twice and got out within 40 minutes.
Eric Greitens is a former Navy SEAL officer and author of the book, "The Heart and the Fist." He said, "These are incredibly difficult, incredibly dangerous operations. And they are only undertaken by the nation's most elite commandos...An extraordinary amount of training goes into this so that they can actually hit their target, without hurting civilians, without injuring others around them."
The heroes who finally got bin Laden are known as the "SEAL Team 6." Just like the men in the Discovery Channel documentary Navy SEALs, they're trained to keep their cool when all hell is breaking loose. They are literally the best of the best.
"They recognize that when they go on these operations there's a very real possibility that they might not come back alive," said Greitens.
Now they've done what was beginning to seem like a lost cause, taking out the most wanted man in the world.
The Navy SEALs Team 6 are so secretive members are not allowed to talk about the elite group.
