Pregnant Reporter Rips Viewer Who Body-Shamed Her: 'Do I Really Look Disgusting?'
She wrote a blog post about an encounter.
A pregnant news reporter in Georgia was not about to remain silent after she was body-shamed by a viewer.
Laura Warren, 27, who works in Augusta, is expecting her first child. She recently received a voicemail saying that her maternity clothes made her look “disgusting on TV.”
"Please go to Target and buy some decent maternity clothes so you don't walk around looking like you got a watermelon strapped under your too tight outfits," the caller said in the voicemail, which Warren posted to her blog. "Target's got a great line of maternity clothes in case you've never heard of such a thing."
Warren asked her blog audience, “Do I really looking disgusting?” while also posting numerous on-air pictures of herself in maternity clothes.
"The majority of people have said, 'Don't give that woman a second thought, and keep on being you.' And, they're right," Warren told ABCNews. “The reason I wrote that blog is to get a discussion going about how easy it is for us all to hang on and dwell on that one negative comment, instead of a whole sea of positive ones.”
She pondered about how to teach children to practice kindness when adults can be so cruel, thinking about her future son.
“It worries me," she wrote. "Right now, I can protect this sweet little boy. But, I won't always be able to. I certainly don't want him to dwell on the negative things insecure people are bound to say about him.”
Warren said she has no plans on changing her fashion sense.
"I wanted this [the blog post] to be a reminder that your words have such power," she said. "Use them for good,” she told ABCNews.
