Nurse Shopping at Target Delivers Baby After Customer's Water Breaks: 'She Was Sweet and Caring'

Clean-up needed at the store entrance!
Perhaps Tanya St. Preux took multi-tasking a tad too far.
The heavily pregnant woman was already feeling contractions when she stopped by a Target store in her Georgia neighborhood to pick up a few items, she said.
At the time, labor and delivery nurse Caris Lockwood happened to be shopping with her mother in the same store, unaware she would soon be dropping everything to help bring a stranger’s baby into the world.
Her mom, Lisa Bozeman, overheard St. Preux talking about contractions.
“I saw a very pregnant woman who looked to be in pain,” Bozeman said. “She mentioned that she needed a few things, then 'might' go to the hospital to be checked since her contractions seemed to be getting strong,” she told Fox5 Atlanta.
Bozeman suggested that St. Preux talk to her daughter.
The birthing nurse was able to persuade St. Preux that she really ought to leave for the hospital right away. The pregnant woman’s friend went to bring her car to the store’s entrance.
Bozeman and her daughter helped St. Preux to the massive market’s front. Meanwhile, her contractions bore down faster, as did her pain.
And then her water broke.
Someone was sent for surgical gloves and towels. Seconds later, a baby boy weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces emerged, and was swaddled in a fluffy, purple towel.
As it turned out, there was more than once nurse shopping in that Target. An ER nurse also stopped to help, as well as a NICU nurse. Thankfully, the latter’s services were not needed.
“Caris was God-sent and amazing. She was sweet and caring and exceeded everyone’s expectations,” the new mother said. “She went way over far and beyond.”
“We feel so blessed to have been part of this,” Bozeman, the nurse’s mom, added. “We have visited the family at the hospital and their home, and plan to have a lifetime friendship with them.”
