Meredith Vieira's Tearful Goodbye

After five years of anchoring Today, Meredith Vieira said a tearful farewell to her colleagues as she left the show. INSIDE EDITION has more.
Meredith Vieira's final episode on the Today show was anything but mellow. On her last day, the beloved anchor wiped away tears as the entire staff surprised her with a choreographed routine.
INSIDE EDITION'S Diane McInerney caught up with Vieira just after her last moments on air. When talking about the touching farewell, she once again teared up.
"I was processing it as I'm running in clogs…and then you see this sea of people, and that took a lot of effort" Vieira said.
And she's not the only one on Today with a heavy heart. Famed weatherman Al Roker says he will miss his co-worker dearly.
Al Roker: "I am sad. I love Meredith. There isn't a person on our staff who doesn't love this woman."
Diane McInerney: "How do you think she'll spend her first day off?"
Al Roker: "Like she's going to spend today– drunk."
After the show, Vieira posed for a big group photo with her colleagues and crew. Then, she signed autographs and chatted with fans, some of whom drove thousands of miles just to bid her goodbye. One family caravanned all the way from Florida!
"She's our favorite, and we're going to miss her," the woman said.
Although Meredith Vieira's run on the Today show may be over, her legacy is undoubtedly enduring.
