Celebrities Hit the Red Carpet for Spider-Man Premiere
After months of stops and starts, Spider-Man the Musical opened on Broadway to a star-studded crowd, getting a standing ovation from the audience but poor reviews in the press. INSIDE EDITION was on the scene.
After seven months of delay, there was celebration on the red carpet as the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark finally premiered.
Bono and The Edge, who wrote the music, were flying high at the celebrity packed opening.
"Would you do it again?" INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asked.
The Edge said, "I would absolutely do it again, but it was tough."
Matt Damon, Steve Martin, Liam Neeson, and even Bill Clinton were all in attendance.
Barbara Walters was looking forward to the show–and hoping for some excitement!
"It's a wonderful spectacle, people flying all over the place. I'm hoping he lands right in my lap," Walters said.
Oprah's BFF Gayle King was lucky enough to get a smooch from Bono.
"I just said to Bono, 'You nervous?' He goes, 'Not at all,' " King said.
Cindy Crawford and husband Randy Gerber brought their adorable kids, Presley and Kaia, along for the show.
"I'm really excited for the flying! I heard it was amazing," Kaia said.
Spike Lee told INSIDE EDITION that his children, Sacha and Jackson, were a little nervous.
"He was scared," Lee said of his son, "I said 'It'll be all right.' "
But even after all of the drama, the show opened to less than stellar reviews.
New York Magazine called the show "an embarrassing dud," and The New York Times described it as "a bore."
A favorable review came from the Daily News, which referred to the musical as "a tasty diversion."
After the show, the celebrity audience's verdict was much kinder than that of the critics.
"It was fun! It's a great show with a great ending," an enthusiastic Regis Philbin said.
