Text Rage Triggers Brutal Teen Beating
A text message exchange between two teenagers allegedly ended in the brutal beating of a 15-year-old girl, leaving her with life-threatening head injuries. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
She's the 15-year-old girl who was savagely beaten by another teenager allegedly over a text message.
Now, the family of Josie Ratley has released touching home video of her first steps on the road to recovery.
Ratley suffered severe brain damage and had to relearn how to write her name, and even the alphabet. She was once an aspiring artist but couldn't remember drawings she did before the attack.
Ratley was airlifted to a hospital in March after an attack police say was triggered by 15-year-old Wayne Treacy's rage over a text message.
The last text Treacy sent to Ratley said, "I'm coming over there and I'm going to snap your neck." Soon after, he rode his bike over to Ratley's school and kicked her in the head repeatedly with steel-toed boots.
You can hear Treacy being ordered to stop texting in the 911 call.
Teacher: "I also needed police immediately. I have a high school student that actually created the injury to this child. I need someone to put him under arrest."
911 Operator: Where is he at, an office?"
Teacher: He's in my office area. The front office. [to Treacy] Put your phone down! Put your phone down now!"
Police say Treacy texted a buddy, "Hey, I think I'm going to prison. I think I just killed someone."
He has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and is being held without bail.
Ratley was in a coma for a month, but now she is at home, laughing and working on her artwork again.
Although she still faces intense therapy, doctors are hopeful she can someday resume a more normal life.
