After undergoing years of speculation, Ricky Martin has announced that he is gay. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Ricky Martin is no longer denying the rumors...he has announced that he is gay.
In a statement posted on his website, Martin wrote, "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man, I am very blessed to be who I am."
For many, the announcement came as no surprise. The 38-year-old pop star has been sidestepping questions about his sexuality for years.
Martin first rose to fame as a child star, in the boy band Menudo.
And in 1999, when he rocked the house at the Grammys, he became, for a time, the biggest star in the world.
But with fame, came the questions. In 2008 he became a father of twin boys with a surrogate. He wrote on his website that his sons inspired him to finally reveal the truth about his sexuality.
"To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with," he wrote.
"Ricky has been a sex symbol for so long, but there have also been rumors for so long that women probably aren't terribly surprised that he's come out," says People Senior Editor Julie Dam.
