Jennifer Hudson Attends First Day of Murder Trial
Jennifer Hudson was in tears as she testified in the trial against the man accused of killing some of her family members. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Jennifer Hudson was in tears, testifying at the trial of the man accused of murdering her mother, brother and nephew.
Hudson was dressed in black, her hair pulled back. At first she spoke so softly that the judge asked her to raise her voice.
Hudson told jurors she had gone to school with defendant William Balfour and pointed him out in the courtroom. Balfour was married to Hudson's sister, Julia.
"None of us wanted her to marry him," Hudson said on the stand. "We didn't like how he treated her, and I did not like how he treated my nephew."
As she spoke about her slain 7-year-old nephew, Julian, Hudson got misty eyed, saying, "It was always me and my Tugga Bear. That's what I called him."
Hudson also testified that she and her mother were so close, they slept in the same bed until she was 16. She wept as she described the last time the family was all together.
Balfour, who has pled not guilty, allegedly shot the victims in a jealous rage. Neighbors who heard gunshots didn't call police because gang violence is so common on the Chicago block where Hudson grew up.
