After 400 Pound Weight Loss, Man Gains the Weight Back

INSIDE EDITION watched when David Smith, the 650 pound virgin, lost 400 pounds. Now, three years later, Smith has sadly put much of the weigh back on.
Everyone watched David Smith's amazing weight loss when he dropped more than 400 pounds and transformed himself from a dud to a stud. He wanted to get fit and find a girlfriend; it was all chronicled on the TLC show, The 650 Pound Virgin.
He even underwent plastic surgery to get rid of the excess skin following his weight loss.
Now, sadly, he's gained much of his weight back, piling on almost 300 pounds and weighing in at almost 500 pounds.
Smith said, "I didn't want to let anybody down. I just felt so bad."
INSIDE EDITION first met Smith in 2009 when he was as proud as could be over his remarkable weight loss.
"I am more myself now," he told us three years ago.
But in Smith's latest appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, he explained what went wrong.
"All my life I was this monster in my head and all of a sudden to be this good looking guy. I just didn't know how to deal with it," he said.
Smith said he's committed to getting healthy again and has just started a new regime. This time he has an added incentive -- his girlfriend.
He sobbingly said, "I love her so much and I put her through a lot and she stayed by my side."
