Rielle Hunter Defends Her Name

Rielle Hunter is firing back at critics who are calling her a homewrecker, and says she's not the first person to fall in love with a married man. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

Rielle Hunter is coming out swinging against those who call her a floozy homewrecker.

ABC News' Chris Cuomo spoke to Hunter for an interview airing Friday on 20/20.

"I'm a woman who fell in love with married man. I'm not first woman who has done that, and I'm not going to be the last," said Hunter during her interview.

John Edwards' ex-mistress says she's misunderstood.

"How do you want yourself defined?" asked Cuomo.

"First and foremost, I'm a mom. Rielle Hunter is a mom," replied Hunter.

INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asked Cuomo, "What were your impressions of her?"

"Smart, pretty, brave, and brazen, because she is not backing away from the taboos. And also—I was fascinated—she is at the center, with all of the answers, and all the details, of the scandal that has defined our generation in politics," said Cuomo.

Excerpts of Hunter's new book, What Really Happened, are published in the new issue of People magazine, out Friday. In the magazine, she also poses for a family photo with her love child with Edwards, 4-year-old Frances Quinn.

"She paints a very dark portrait of Elizabeth Edwards. She says that John Edwards described his marriage as broken long before Edwards and Rielle got together," People magazine's Betsy Gleick told INSIDE EDITION.

Among the shots she takes at Edwards' late wife Elizabeth is Hunter's assertion that, "If you aren't having sex with your partner, the chances are high that someone else is."

She also says Elizabeth chose an unbelievable screensaver for her computer. It was a frozen image of Edwards from a video that Hunter shot during his run for the presidency in 2008.

"She apparently told him that he never once looked at her the way he looked at me," said Hunter.

"Did you get the sense that John signed off on this book?" Trent asked Cuomo.

"No. This is her truth. This is not a good book for John Edwards, I promise you that," replied Cuomo.

As for the big question—her current relationship status with Edwards—Hunter tells People, "We're still a couple." She compares their love to that of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who have been together for 29 years without getting married.

"She does not live by some of the rules and judgements that many others do," said Cuomo.
