President Obama and Mitt Romney shined a comic light on their differences at an annual charity dinner, and both candidates had the crowd in stitches. INSIDEE EDITION has the story.
Everybody's talking about those non-stop jokes President Obama and Mitt Romney used to bring down the house at a charity dinner in New York Thursday night.
"It's nice to just finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house," joked Romney.
President Obama joked, "Voters in states like Ohio and Virginia and Florida will decide this incredibly important election. Which begs the question: What are we doing here?"
The zingers kept coming at the white tie-and-tails event.
Obama said, "I had a lot more energy in our second debate. I felt well rested after the nice, long nap I had in the first debate."
Romney joked, "Big Bird didn't even see it coming. By the way, in the spirit of Sesame Street, tonight's remarks are brought to you by the letter "O" and the number 16 trillion."
So, just who wrote those hilarious one-liners? There are reports that comedian Dennis Miller helped out Romney. Miller is a regular commentator on The O'Reilly Factor.
On his radio show today, a caller asked Miller the direct question, but Miller played it coy.
"I was just wondering if you've been hired on as a writer for him? I mean, he was hilarious," said the caller.
"Uhh ... Lynette, what are you calling about today?" asked Miller.
And who wrote the material for the president, including one about getting an endorsement from none other than Honey Boo Boo when he joked, "Just the other day. Honey Boo Boo endorsed me. That's a big relief."
An Obama campaign spokesperson tells INSIDE EDITION, "The president worked on his speech along with his speechwriting team."
The fundraiser was held at New York's swanky Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and Ann Romney stopped the show in a spectacular black and white formal gown. We've learned that the dress is, get this, 10 years old.
Meanwhile, the ladies of The View are coming under fire for grilling Ann with tough questions on abortion and religion.
Fox News is blasting The View for taking, "Shots at Ann Romney after playing 'romantic' softball with Obamas" when they appeared on the show last month.
Whoopi Goldberg tweeted: "There was no malice or agenda involved."
But viewers noted Joy Behar's sour face and that she sat far apart from Ann.
Ann just posted this comment on her Facebook page: "I had a great time. Thanks for having me on."
The first lady appeared on Live with Kelly and Michael, where she played the show's "lightning round," answering some very personal questions.
Michael Strahan asked, "For the president, do you prefer boxers or briefs?"
"Uh...none of the above. No, I'm just kidding," joked the first lady.
