Young Girl Shoots Home Invader

Home alone and terrified, a sixth-grade girl defended herself from a home intruder by shooting the man. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
A dramatic 911 call from a 12-year-old girl home alone as an intruder broke in has been released.
Sixth grader Kendra St. Clair heard a man trying to break into their home in Oklahoma and first called her mom.
“I said, 'Kendra go get my gun, get in my closet and call 911,'” said her mother.
Kendra did exactly as she was told and soon, she could hear the intruder moving around inside the house as she called 911.
Kendra: “Please. I just know I don't want to shoot a gun!”
911 operator: “You still have your mom's gun there?”
Kendra: “Yes I do. I have it in my hand.”
Kendra told INSIDE EDITION, “I was really scared knowing he was in the house with me and that there was nothing I could really do.”
As she waited for police to arrive, she saw the knob on the closet door turn. She showed INSIDE EDITION what she did next.
“I saw the doorknob turn, and I fired the gun through the door and it hit him,” she said.
911 operator: “Did you shoot the gun, honey?”
Kendra: “Yes, ma'am.”
911 operator: “You did?”
Kendra: “Yes there's a hole in the closet door.”
911 operator: “You shot the gun?”
Kendra: “Yes, I did.”
911 operator: “She shot the gun. She shot the gun through the wall. She is still inside the closet with the gun.”
The intruder, 32-year-old Stacy Jones, was shot in the shoulder and fled from the house, but was captured by police outside.
“I was scared to shoot it, but when I saw the doorknob turn it was kind of my only chance of saving myself and shooting was the only thing I had to do,” said Kendra.
Now, the sixth grader is being hailed a hero.
Kendra’s mother proudly said, “I'm thankful to God that this situation ended like it did and that my daughter was brave enough to protect herself.”
