Donald Trump talks to INSIDE EDITION about the drama that went on behind-the-scenes at his appearance on Late Show with David Letterman.
Defiant Donald Trump appeared on Late Show with David Letterman last night, but the smiles disguised the drama that was unfolding behind the scenes.
Trump revealed to INSIDE EDITION he actually canceled his appearance in a fury just hours before the show.
“I actually thought in terms of canceling and I actually did. I said ‘I’m not going to do the show,’” said Trump.
INSIDE EDITION’s Paul Boyd asked, “You literally called up?"
“Yes,” said Trump.
Trump was angered by Letterman's jokes about Trump challenging President Obama to release his college transcript and passport records.
On his show, Letterman joked, “Hey Don, I'll give you $5 million to release that thing on your head. Let it go.”
Trump canceled his long-standing commitment to appear on the show, and it took a personal call from Letterman to smooth things over.
“David called me and he said, ‘Look, we’re all big boys and it's not appropriate. If you could do it, it would be a nice thing.’ I said to myself, ‘If I don't do it, it's a huge story. If I do it, I go into the lion's den.’ I decided to go into the lion's den and it worked out really well,” said Trump.
“If I were you, and you had been saying the things about me that I've been saying about you, the last place I'd be would be here,” Letterman told Trump on the show. Trump's appearance generated huge ratings.
Trump told INSIDE EDITION he wants an apology for those harsh words from Barbara Walters. "Stop it. Get off it, Donald," Walters said on The View.
Boyd asked, “Barbara Walters went on her show and said, ‘Donald you are making a fool of yourself.’ Does that hurt this relationship?”
“Well, she's wrong. She will apologize to me some day,” said Trump.
He also spoke out for the first time about the President's appearance on Leno.
Leno asked the President, "What has he got against you? I don't get it."
Obama joked, “This all dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya.”
Trump said, “I thought it was fun. He gave a con man answer that is kind of standard.”
Meanwhile, the first lady appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote a “Get Out the Vote” campaign. In a sketch, she woke up Kimmel early on Election Day to vote.
Mitt Romney was enjoying the lighter side of campaigning too, joining Meatloaf, singing “America the Beautiful.”
