Actress Debra Messing and others are under fire by some for their actions following Hurricane Sandy. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
She's a curvy actress under fire for taking photos that some are calling incredibly insensitive, of her standing amid the rubble of Hurricane Sandy. While thousands are suffering, she's pouting on crushed cars.
The pictures, which Nana Gouvea posted on her Facebook page, quickly went global and the reaction is utter disbelief.
The Huffington Post calls it "disaster porn."
And here's a sampling of the reaction on Facebook.
"You absolutely STUPID, STUPID, vain women, have you no heart?" wrote one person.
"How could you be so heartless and disrespectful," said another.
The 37-year-old Gouvea spoke to INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd.
Boyd asked, "What were you thinking taking these pictures? It looks like you're posing and trying to look glamorous in this destruction."
Gouvea is well-known in her native Brazil and once posed for Playboy.
"No, I'm not trying to be glamorous. I'm not posing. This is how I am in my everyday life," said Gouvea.
She said her husband, Carlos took the pictures to send to a journalist friend back home in Brazil.
Carlos said, "This is not her trying to be sexy."
Making a misstep in the midst of a national disaster like Hurricane Sandy can sometimes cause real problems for celebrities.
Actress Debra Messing is facing criticism today for her choice of Halloween costume. She dressed as Marie Antoinette, the French queen who, according the legend said, 'Let them eat cake' while her subjects starved.
The New York Post's Andrea Peyser called Messing and the event organizer, Bette Midler 'Heartless.'
"Fires were barely snuffed out. The dead were still being counted. But the rich weren't about to let a little weather event ruin their party," wrote Peyser.
It should be noted that the costume party raised $1.8 million for charity.
Messing reacted to the criticism, tweeting: "It's disappointing."
