Oprah Winfrey opens up about her cancer scare that was so concerning, she didn't even tell her close friends. Thankfully, it was a false alarm. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.
It was an extraordinary moment as Oprah Winfrey announced that she just had a breast cancer scare.
"The other day I had a scare. I felt a lump in my breast,” she said.
Winfrey was speaking at her annual 'O You' conference in Los Angeles when, out of nowhere, she made the stunning revelation. Not even her best friend Gayle King knew.
“I have a question. Why am I hearing about this today when this was last week? I'm being very serious Oprah," asked King.
"Because I didn't want you to worry," Winfrey said.
"I'm sitting here and my heart is beating. I'm not kidding. This has been over a week ago. I don't like it, I'm not kidding, I'm stunned!" said King.
King, who was moderating the conference, was very upset that she hadn't been told. An audience member even urged Winfrey to comfort King.
"She loves you, she cares about you. Give one another a hug,” said one audience member.
The scare clearly rattled Winfrey. According to The New York Times, which broke the story today, she was showing some 'signs of strain,' and had 'shadows under her eyes.'
Winfrey says she first felt a lump in her breast while taping her Favorite Things show last month, and traveled immediately to Chicago to have a check up by her doctor.
“You know that moment-everybody's had that moment-where they look at it and they go out of the room, and they bring somebody else and you're like 'Oh lord'” she said.
Fortunately, the lump turned out to be benign.
“Let me just say, everything is just fine,” said Winfrey.
Still, King was taken aback. Even Winfrey admits, she hasn't heard the last of this.
