In 1999, the nation watched in horror as students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado scrambled to escape as teenagers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire. They were captured on surveillance camera calmy walking around the school firing semi-automatic weapons. They murdered 12 students, one teacher and injured 21 others before commiting suicide.
In 1997 in Paducah, Kentucky, three students were killed and five wounded when 14-year-old Micheal Carneal opened fire on his classmates as they took part in a prayer circle.
The following year, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, four students and one teacher were killed by 11-year-old Andrew Golden and 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson. The baby faced killers pulled a fire alarm and then opened fire on their classmates and teachers as they poured out of the school.
2007 saw the deadliest attack even at a college campus. It happened at Virginia Tech University when disturbed student Cho Seung Hui killed 32 people and wounded 17 others.
One of the saddest school shootings happened in 2006 at a one-rooom Amish school house in Bart, Pennsylvania. Charles Roberts took the entire school hostage and shot 10 girls aged 6 to 13, killing five of them before committing suicide.
Now, the most innocent of victims—elementary school children attending school on a Friday morning found themselves the targets of a lunatic.
