Whitey Bulger's Ex Still Holds Candle For Notorious Mobster

INSIDE EDITION got a firsthand account of what life was like with mobster "Whitey" Bulger from one of his ex-girlfriends, Lindsey Cyr.
"Whitey" Bulger, one of America's most notorious organized crime bosses, is on trial today, accused of 19 cold-blooded murders.
But incredibly, one woman is still carrying a torch for him, and has for the last 36 years. Lindsey Cyr was just 20 when she became this monster's girlfriend.
Cyr told INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd, "You'll never convince me that he is some kind of a mad killer."
She says she witnessed his violent nature when Bulger confronted her ex-boyfriend in a restaurant.
"He backed him out of the restaurant and pulverized him with four straight shots and I never saw his hands move," said Cyr.
The brutal gangster depicted by Jack Nicholson in the movie The Departed is loosely based on Bulger.
Bulger and Lindsey Cyr had a child together in 1967, but they kept his existence a secret. And Bulger issued a chilling threat.
Cry said, "He said, 'And by the way, if you ever get pregnant again I will shoot you.' "
Tragedy struck when the child was just six years old. He died of Reye's syndrome, a reaction to aspirin.
She says the child's untimely death made Bulger crueler than ever.
Cyr says he called her to say goodbye before he went on the lam from the FBI in 1994.
Boyd asked, "You knew who he was and he's telling you he's about to run off and disappear. Did any part of you want to notify the authorities?"
"No," replied Cyr.
"Your loyalty ran way too deep?"
"Way too deep," she said.
She says Bulger called her twice when he was on the run, but she says she never told authorities, even though there was a $2 million reward for his capture.
"He said, 'Are you ok?' I said, 'Yes, I am. Are you ok?'"
Bulger was the FBI's most-wanted fugitive. He was supplanted only by Osama bin Laden.
After 16 years on the lam, Whitey Bulger was captured in 2011 living in a modest rent controlled apartment in Santa Monica, California with another girlfriend, Catherine Greig.
A former model, Cyr is now 68 years old, but time hasn't changed her feelings for America's most notorious mobster.
Boyd asked, "Do you still love him?"
Cyr answered, "Certainly. I always will."
