Jim Carrey Refuses To Support New Film
Jim Carrey is speaking out, saying he won't support his new film, Kick-Ass 2 due to the violent nature of the film and Carrey's feelings on the Sandy Hook school shooting. INSIDE EDITION has more.
Jim Carrey is refusing to support his new film because it's too violent.
The actor plays a crime fighter in Kick-Ass 2.
"I did Kick-Ass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence." Carey tweeted. "I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."
The Hollywood Reporter's Michael O'Connell said, "It's very unusual for an actor to say that they are not going to promote their own movie especially two months before the movie is released."
The film is a sequel to the 2010 sleeper hit Kick-Ass, which also had some pretty over-the-top cartoon-style violence.
The new movie wrapped production just three weeks before the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, where 20 children and six adults were killed by a lunatic gunman, sparking a national debate about gun control.
The movie's Executive Producer Mark Millar responded to Carrey’s announcement by saying, "I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay 18 months ago."
Conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin thinks Carrey is being a hypocrite, saying, "If he's really had a change of heart, is he going to now return his salary or donate it to some sort of charity? I think a lot of people are wondering that out loud."
