Mother Kicked Out of Water Park Speaks Out
A 42-year-old mom is outraged that she was asked to leave a water park because officials said her bikini was way too revealing. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
The mom who was kicked out of a water park for the way she looked in her bikini is speaking out.
“I quickly became indignant,” she said.
Madelyn Sheaffer wanted to beat the heat so she and her teenage daughter went to Adventure Oasis Water Park in Independence, Missouri. When she went for a dip in the pool wearing a string bikini, the staff told her to "cover up or go home."
INSIDE EDITION's Diane McInerney asked, "What happened?"
Madelyn said, "They said, 'We want to let you know that your swimsuit bottoms are too small and you are going to have to cover them up with a pair of shorts, because this is a family park.'"
McInerney asked, "When you spoke with the supervisor what were you then instructed to do?"
Madelyn said, "He kind of looked me over and said, 'You know what? Not only do I need you put some shorts on, I need you to put a shirt on too, because your top is too small as well.'"
She says she was humiliated when police escorted her out of the water park. She recently lost 100 pounds and is eager to show off her bikini body any chance she gets.
The 42-year-old mother of three believes her age and curvy figure are the real reason she was thrown out of the park.
"I feel like I was definitely discriminated against. I feel like I have every right to wear a swimsuit to a swimming park as anybody else does," she said.
The city of Independence, which owns the park, says they are relying on the judgment of officials at the facility who made the decision.
