'Glee' Plans Next Move After Monteith's Death
After the sudden death of 31-year-old Glee star Cory Monteith, Fox executives must plan how to move forward with the show without the beloved actor. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Glee actor Cory Monteith's death has fans wondering how the show will survive without one of its biggest stars.
Monteith played a high school football star turned glee club singer. His on-screen relationship with real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele was an essential plot line in the show.
Matt Roush of TV Guide told INSIDE EDITION, "It was such a big part of the show, his relationship with Rachel. There's just so many aspects of that character that he just can't walk away and fade into the woodwork."
The first episode of the new season was supposed to air September 19th, but the New York Daily News reports production of the show may be postponed for several weeks while Fox executives figure out how to deal with Monteith’s death.
Popular TV series have faced the loss of a key characters before.
When Larry Hagman died last year, TNT’s Dallas used special effects to place Hagman in a few final scenes. Hagman’s iconic character, J.R. Ewing was finally given a fitting farewell with a huge funeral scene.
In 2001, The Sopranos also used special effects and old sound clips to recreate actress Nancy Marchand, who played James Gandolfini’s mother, Livia Soprano.
When John Ritter died in 2003, his show 8 Simple Rules took a two month hiatus before returning with an episode that began with Ritter's character suffering an off-screen fatal heart attack.
Now, Glee is left with having to address the tragic loss of one of its brightest stars.
