TV Reporter Fired Over Posts On Personal Blog

Shea Allen was fired from her job as a TV reporter after posting remarks on her blog that she thought were harmless. INSIDE EDITION has the exclusive interview with the former reporter.

Reporter Shea Allen was on her way up in the news business. Only 26, she was a fixture on TV in Huntsville, Alabama.

But, now that dream is slipping away. Shea has just been fired because of some silly postings she put on her personal blog which she entitled "Confessions of a Red-Headed Reporter."
One post read: "I've gone bra-less during a live broadcast and no one was the wiser," and, "My best sources are the ones who secretly have a crush on me."

The blog continued: "I’m frightened of old people and I refuse to do stories involving them or the places they reside."

INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander spoke with Shea. Alexander asked, "What were you thinking?"

Allen said, “I was thinking that I was making some, you know, tongue-in-cheek comments in a personal blog in my personal voice."

There was also Shea's YouTube channel on which she made observations about her job that were not exactly flattering to her employer.

Shea said in the video, "This is me sitting in my car, waiting to do a story about nothing and getting paid less than most McDonald's managers."

Alexander said, "Surely, you knew that your employer would have a problem with this post."

Shea replied, "Management has always asked us to put a slice of our personal life out there and that's all I was really trying to do."

Four days after word of the blog got back to her station, Shea says she was called into a meeting and fired. Now, she's trying to pick up the pieces of a once-promising career.

Alexander asked, "Do you think you'll ever work in the television business again?"

Shea said, "Well Megan, I have faith that there are folks out there, that there are news stations and news directors and managements that will believe in what I've stood for. If not, I don't know what I'll do, because I was born to tell the news."
