Michelle Knight was present for the demolition of Ariel Castro's home in Cleveland. Castro wept in prison, saying he had "many happy memories" from the house. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Going, going, gone! The Cleveland house of horrors was knocked to the ground this morning, to cheers and applause from neighbors.
Just before demolition, a bunch of yellow balloons were released at the site on Seymour Avenue. One of them was from the hand of Michelle Knight, who was kept prisoner by Ariel Castro for more than a decade.
Knight said, "I feel liberated that people think of me as a hero and a role model."
Even before the Castro house was knocked down, it was blurred out of an image on Google Earth.
The horror house was demolished in accordance with a deal Castro made with authorities to avoid the death penalty. Prosecutors say he cried when he signed over the deed to his house. And believe it or not, they also say Castro, who was sentenced last week to life in prison plus a thousand years, mentioned his "many happy memories" at the house with the women he kept in chains.
Brave Michelle Knight was rescued in May from the house of horrors, along with Gina DeJesus and Amanda Berry and her six-year-old daughter.
And now, the house where they suffered so much and for so long is nothing but a pile of rubble.
