Joran van der Sloot's Horrid Prison Cell

INSIDE EDITION reports on the prison cell conditions that Joran van der Sloot is facing in Peru.
They call the Peruvian prison "Hell on Earth," but now Joran van der Sloot is calling it home.
Joran van der Sloot's squalid prison cell consists of a mattress on a concrete slab, a mere hole in the floor for a toilet, and a filthy, rusting sink.
ABC's 20/20 was given a tour of the Peruvian prison where he is being held, one of the world's toughest.
Six foot four van der Sloot appeared, towering over his Peruvian guards, but said nothing.
20/20's Chris Cuomo said, "He is not enjoying his time down there, he is with people and in a place that none of us would want to endure."
His mother, Anita, finally visited him at the prison Friday. She says he is not a monster: "He is not the monster they like the world to see. He is traumatized, depressed and has an addiction. He is not a murderer."
In an exclusive interview airing on 20/20, van der Sloot's ex-girlfriend Melody Granadillo says he was desperate for money in the hours before the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores.
"He asked me if I could send him, I think $200," Granadillo told ABC News.
Cuomo said, "She doesn't give him the money. She now regrets that very much because she thinks that maybe she could have forestalled his desperation."
