Teen Dangling Off Cliff Calls Mom 1,500 Miles Away For Help

A scenic hike in the Alaskan mountains left one teen clinging for dear life from a cliff. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
It was a real life cliffhanger caught on tape. A terrified teen clung to the side of a cliff in Alaska, 90-feet above the ground. So, she did what any teen would do and called her mom.
Eighteen-year-old Cherelle LaGrou had been hiking in Denali National Park on Tuesday, when she started to slip, suddenly tumbling 30 feet. Even though she was 1,500 miles away, her mom, Shelly tried to keep her daughter calm.
Shelly told INSIDE EDITION’s Les Trent, “All of a sudden, I hear a scream. I don't know why she screamed and then, sudden hysteria. She's crying, telling me she doesn't want to die.”
Hear More From Shelly About That Frightening Call
Trent asked, “Are you freaking out at this point?”
“No. I'm thinking I need to stay calm, because I need to calm my daughter,” said Shelly.
The teen told Good Morning America she was afraid she was going to die, saying, "I wasn't sure how much longer I could hold on."
Listening to every terrifying moment, Cherelle's mom had her husband call their daughter's employer, a lodge in Alaska, and they alerted Alaska State Troopers. The troopers rushed to the scene.
Shelly told Trent, “I have the lodge on one phone my daughter on the other. I'm communicating between the two what she can see so they can tell the State Troopers how to find her.”
But the call set in motion a dramatic 45-minute rescue. The drama happened to be caught on tape during the filming of the National Geographic Channel reality show, Alaska State Troopers.
