Former 'GMA' Host Joan Lunden Announces She Has Breast Cancer
Former Good Morning America host Joan Lunden retuned to the show to reveal she has breast cancer. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Former Good Morning America host Joan Lunden shared her medical crisis on live TV.
Robin Roberts asked Lunden on GMA Tuesday morning, “What is it that you want to share with people?”
Lunden said, “I heard those words that every woman fears and never wants to hear, 'You have breast cancer.”
Sixty-three-year-old Lunden returned to GMA and told Robin Roberts that the diagnosis came from an ultrasound.
Lunden said, “You almost feel like, what did I do wrong? And then I just turned a corner and said, ‘Wait a second I am a health advocate so knock this off learn everything you can about this and go into warrior mode.’”
Last month, Lunden was on The View to say goodbye to the legendary Barbara Walters. INSIDE EDITION’s Deborah Norville stood right next to her on the set surrounded by their fellow journalists.
She is now getting support from two GMA anchors that know exactly what she is going through. Both Robin Roberts and Amy Robach were diagnosed with breast cancer. Robach just completed chemotherapy.
Roberts said, “We are here for you.”
Lunden said, “I feel it when I walked into the studio so many familiar faces.”
Lunden co-hosted GMA for 17 years from 1980 to 1997. Fortunately, she caught the cancer in time. She'll undergo surgery, chemo and radiation, and is expected to make a full recovery.
“The words are almost so surreal when you hear you have breast cancer,” said Lunden.
