Joan Rivers is in a New York hospital after she reportedly went into cardiac arrest on Thursday morning.
Joan was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital on the Upper East Side of Manhattan just before 10 a.m. Thursday morning. She was having a medical procedure just blocks away at a private clinic when she reportedly stopped breathing.
The 81-year-old comic legend was first reported to be in critical condition. Later, her condition was upgraded to stable.
Joan was undergoing a procedure on her vocal chords at the Yorkville Endoscopy Center on 93rd Street when she suddenly stopped breathing.
INSIDE EDITION spoke to Joan just last week about the suicide of her friend, Robin Williams. Her voice definitely sounded raspy.
Dr. Travis Stork of TV’s The Doctors says any procedure involving a woman of Joan’s age is potentially risky.
He told INSIDE EDITION, "Anytime someone undergoes a procedure, a surgical procedure with anesthesia or sedation, this can be a risk."

Renowned for her non-stop work ethic, Joan performed her one woman show in New York City on Wednesday night. On Tuesday, she was in Los Angeles taping a 90-minute Emmys special for her show Fashion Police on E!. Joan flies back and forth between coasts twice a week.
Her daughter Melissa was photographed at the airport where she was boarding a flight to New York to be at her mother's side.
Joan was born in New York City in 1933. Her big break came in 1965 when she brought her special brand of humor to The Tonight Show. From then on, Joan was a big star.
INSIDE EDITION’s Deborah Norville is close friends with Joan. They shared a hair-raising adventure on a hot air balloon trip gone wrong in 1995.
Now, Joan Rivers faces a major medical crisis.
A family friend has expressed concern saying, "We are scared. This is not looking good. No big medical decisions will be made until Melissa arrives." [Source: New York Daily News]
