Fireworks on Capitol Hill over Serious Secret Service Failures

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson was grilled on Capitol Hill following the security breach on the White House last week. INSIDE EDITION has the details and reveals how far the intruder made it.

The rooms at the White House that the knife-wielding intruder ran through and penetrated farther than the Secret Service admitted are iconic.
INSIDE EDITION now knows that Omar Gonzalez actually ran past the stairway leading to the White House living quarters and into the East Room. It is the room where President Obama announced the capture of Osama bin Laden.

Gonzalez was finally tackled as he was about to enter the Green Room.

Today in a fiery congressional hearing, Secret Service Director Julia Pierson was grilled about the scandal.

Congressman Steven Horsford said, “I believe, you have done a disservice to the President of the United States."

Congressman Stephen Lynch said, “I wish to God you protected the White House like you protect your reputation here today!”

The September 19th breach of security took place just four minutes after President Obama and his daughters left for Camp David.

The Secret Service initially said Gonzalez was captured near the front door. We now know that's not true.

Ron Kessler, author of The First Family Detail, gave Pierson’s performance a scathing review.

He told INSIDE EDITION, “Over and over again, Julia Pierson demonstrated that she is certainly not up to this job."

Remember In the Line of Fire, where Clint Eastwood played a Secret Service agent willing to sacrifice his life for the president?

Overnight, the Secret Service finds itself a punch line.

In a skit on the Late Show with David Letterman, it spoofed the president calling Slomin’s for security. In the skit someone asked, “This is Slomin’s Shield. We've detected an intrusion into your residence. With whom am I speaking?”

Someone who sounded like the president said, “This is Barack Obama. How are you?”

“Shield your home. The Slomin’s Shield,” theme was then played.

Conan O’Brien joked, “When asked for comment, Joe Biden said, 'He made it farther than I've ever gotten.' He ran across the lawn, got in the door. I don't even have a joke for this. It's just craziness.”

The White House intruder was actually tackled by an off duty Secret Service agent who just happened to still be in the White House.
