Virgin Galactic Spaceship Crashes
Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo crashed in the Mojave Desert, killing one pilot and injuring a second, making for the second space craft disaster in one week. INSIDE EDITION reports.
Disaster in the desert as a spaceship built to carry the rich and famous into outer space crashes in the midst of a test flight.
It happened Friday in California's Mojave Desert when the Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo "experienced an in-flight anomaly" according to the airline.
The California Highway Patrol rushed to the scene.
"Aircraft down, two souls on board," said one dispatch.
Two pilots were aboard the spaceship. One is dead and the other is seriously injured.
This latest disaster comes just three days after a rocket exploded in Virginia, just six seconds after takeoff.
The Virgin spaceship is the brainstorm of Richard Branson, who's offering rides into outer space for civilians at a price of $250,000 per ticket. Flights are scheduled to begin next year.
Among the celebrities reportedly lining up for a ride are Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.
But now, it appears this adventurous space program may be in question after this sudden tragedy in the desert.
More than 800 people had put down deposits to fly aboard the spaceship.
