Weirdest Property Fight Ever: Lee Harvey Oswald's Coffin

JFK’s assassin is in the headlines again for a very unusual reason – his coffin. INSIDE EDITION reports.

It's a decaying relic from one of the darkest times in American history: the coffin that President Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was buried in after he was shot to death in 1963 by Jack Ruby.

Now, the coffin is back in the news for a most bizarre reason. It's for sale.

This incredible story began in 1981 when Oswald's original coffin was exhumed to dispel rumors that it contained an imposter.

The funeral home that kept the coffin put it on the auction block four years ago. INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret was there and reported, "This is the original coffin Lee Harvey Oswald was buried in and where he remained for nearly two decades. Now, incredibly, it's being auctioned off to the highest bidder."

The decrepit pine box actually sold to a secret bidder for more than $87,000. But not so fast.

Enter Robert Oswald, the assassin's 80-year-old brother, who is now trying to stop the sale, claiming it belongs to him because he paid $300 for it in 1963. He wants to have it destroyed.

And as for the sale?

Robert said, "It's just bad taste, and as far as I know, it was sold by a bunch of scoundrels."
