'Unbroken,' 'American Sniper,' Too Patriotic For Hollywood?
Two movies about the true American spirit have been shut out of some major Hollywood awards. Could they be too patriotic? INSIDE EDITION has more.
They are two of this year's most celebrated movies, but are they "too patriotic" for Hollywood?
Dominic Patten of Deadline.com said on Fox News, "These are American heroes, two very different wars, but two films that deserved nominations, and both were snubbed."
Angelina Jolie's Unbroken is the story of Louis Zamperini, the Olympic hero-turned Air Force lieutenant who was shot down during World War ll, and held in a Japanese POW camp.
But, to the surprise of many, when the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations were announced, there was no mention of Unbroken in the major categories.
The same goes for American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper as former Navy Seal Chris Kyle.
Variety called Cooper "Superb," but apparently not good enough for a Golden Globe or SAG nomination!
"The nominations (laid) bare the prejudice that rules a bizarro world in which nudity and rampant sexuality are promoted at the expense of monogamy and flag-waving," wrote the New York Post's Andrea Peyser.
INSIDE EDITION spoke to film critic Leonard Maltin, author of Leonard Maltin's 2015 Movie Guide.
Maltin said, "American Sniper is certainly on my list of year's best films. I'm surprised it didn't get more recognition."

But Maltin says we may never know why American Sniper and Unbroken didn't make the cut.
"I don't think patriotism, or lack of it, has anything to do with the reaction to these films. You don't know why people vote the way they do," said Maltin.
