Is Lupita Nyong'o's $150K Stolen Oscar Dress Being Reduced To Jewelry?

Has Lupita Nyong’o’s missing Oscar dress been transformed into jewelry? Fashion experts say it’s possible.

It's the first sighting of  Lupita Nyong'o since her $150,000 Oscar dress was stolen.

Lupita was peppered with questions when she landed at New York's JFK airport.

The 12 Years a Slave Oscar winner didn't say a word.

The dress was stolen from Lupita's suite on the fifth floor at the London West Hollywood hotel.

In a video posted online she's surrounded by her team of stylists putting on the finishing touches before she hit the red carpet on Oscar night where she made such a huge splash.

Ryan Seacrest asked her, "Tell me about this stunning dress, who designed it?"

"This is Custom Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa," she responded.

It took 25 people working 10 weeks to adorn the dress with 6,000 Akoya pearls.

New York Magazine fashion editor Isabel Wilkinson said if the dress isn't recovered soon it may be  taken apart and sold as jewelry.

"I would really hate to see this dress be ruined in any way. It's truly a work of art. But I would imagine that since someone can't sell it as a whole piece, it would get broken up and sold for the pearls," Wilkinson told INSIDE EDITION.

She said the theft may result in beefed up security for major red carpet events.

Wilkinson added, "So we've always seen security guards accompany actresses that are wearing hundred of thousands of dollars worth of jewels and I would imagine that now with more and more actresses wearing custom made dresses, that security will have to increase as well."
