Elton John Blasts Dolce and Gabbana After They Call In Vitro Fertilization 'Synthetic Babies'
"How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic.'"
Elton John is calling for a boycott of Dolce and Gabbana after the Italian designers behind the brand dismissed gay adoption and in vetro fertilization as “unnatural and quote synthetic."
Domenico Dolce told Panorama magazine: "I’m not convinced by what I call chemical children, synthetic babies. They are wombs for hire, semen chosen from a catalog. And then you have to explain to these children who their mother is."
Steffano Gabbana added: "The family is not a fad. It is a supernatural sense of belonging."
Sir Elton, who has two children with husband David Furnish via in vitro fertilization, wrote on Instagram: "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic.' And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children."
How dare you refer to my beautiful children as "synthetic". And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana
Celebrities like Sharon Stone, Courtney Love and Victoria Beckham also took to social media in support using the hastag #BoycottDolce&Gabbana.
Fellow singer Ricky Martin, who is gay and also has two children via in vitro fertilization wrote: “@dolcegabbana, ur voices R 2 powerful 2B spreading so much h8. Wake up, its 2015.”
