President Barack Obama just made history by becoming the first sitting president to appear on a daytime talk show, but not everyone thinks the President of the United States should be making appearances on The View. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
There was a rousing ovation for President Obama during his historic appearance on The View. He's the first sitting president to appear on a daytime talk show and he joked it was all so his wife could see him on TV!
"I was trying to find a show that Michelle actually watched," he said.
But not everyone was charmed by the president's participation in the daytime chat fest.
"I think there's got to be a little bit of dignity to the presidency," says Pennsylvania's Governor Ed Rendell, a Democrat, who spoke out on MSNBC and bashed Obama's decision to appear on The View.
"I wouldn't put him on Jerry Springer either, right? I think the President of the United States has to go on serious shows."
And on her Sirius radio show, former View co-host Rosie O'Donnell said that she had mixed reaction about the appearance: "I don't really think sitting presidents should go do fluffy daytime TV shows. Although, I'm happy for them, that's a good booking," she told her audience.
"People will say that frankly, when you go on shows like The View and others, you're not going to be cornered; there are no tough questions there. Then there's the other side, which says politically he's reaching people that he really needs to get back, people that he may have lost, women across this country," says political consultant Hank Sheinkopf.
And CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric is defending the president, saying, "It is not beneath the president, or any politician, to try to reach out to all Americans."
Barbara Walters, who is still recovering from heart surgery, looked healthy and spry making a special early return for the president's visit.
Obama faced a wide range of questions, from the slumping economy to incarcerated actress Lindsay Lohan.
"Did you know that Lindsay Lohan is in jail?" Joy Behar asked him.
"I actually know that, yes," he said.
But it seems the Commander-in-Chief needs to brush up on the Jersey Shore situation!
"Should Snooki run as mayor of Wasilla?" Behar asked.
"I've got to admit I don't know who Snooki is," laughed the president.
And the president also revealed he wasn't among the lucky ones to score an invite the wedding of the year.
"Were you invited to Chelsea Clinton's wedding?" Barbara Walters asked.
"I was not invited because I that think Bill and Hillary, properly, want to keep this as a thing for Chelsea and her soon-to-be husband...and I'm letting you guys know now, you all probably will not be invited to Malia's wedding or Sasha's wedding."
