Husband Confronts Best Man Who Murdered His Wife
He had one thing he needed to say.
A husband tearfully confronted the man who murdered his wife. Making his pain even more unbearable, the killer was his best man.
Nation Hahn was best friends with John Broyhill since high school.
Nation told John in court, “You can't kill what it was that made her so special. We lock our doors at night to keep the outside world, to keep the evil out, right? But what happens when evil has a key?”
When Nation married Jamie Kirk, a political strategist for former Congressman Brad Miller, John Broyhill was at his side. John later worked for Jamie as an accountant and the couple looked on him as family.
But when Jamie confronted John at her home, he stabbed her to death in her house.
Jurors took just 90 minutes to reach a verdict earlier this week. He was found guilty.
Jamie's loved ones were overcome with emotion in the courtroom in Raleigh, North Carolina.
During victim impact statements, Nation confronted the man he once called his best friend.
He said, “We've learned so much about the evil that exists in this world, evil represented by this murderer in front of us.”
Jamie's parents also spoke about their grief.
Her mother said, "When we think about how scared she must have been, how painful the end of her life was, we almost lose our minds."
Her father drove that point home and said, “John, you gave Jamie a death sentence and you gave us all life sentences.”
Prosecutors said John Broyhill stabbed her when she confronted him with evidence that he had embezzled more than $40,000 in campaign funds.
John Broyhill was sentenced to life without parole.
INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asked former Congressman Brad Miller, "Tell me what you think about the sentencing, which was life in prison without the possibility of parole?"
He replied, "I don't want John Broyhill to be outside of prison again for the rest of his life."
