Argentine Cops Bust Drug Ring Allegedly Using Fake World Cup Trophies to Smuggle Drugs

Six people were arrested.

Some alleged criminals tried to take advantage of the World Cup excitement by using replica trophies to smuggle drugs

Cops in Argentina reportedly discovered 20 kilos of marijuana, 10 kilos of cocaine, 1,800 doses of crack-cocaine and more than $14,000 inside fake Jules Rimet trophies.

The security minister of Buenos Aires said Friday that police have broken up the so-called "Narcos de la Copa," who tried to use the global merchandising boom amid the soccer tournament to divert attention from their alleged operation.

"These merchants of death have endless ingenuity, but don't be fooled. They shouldn't be admired. On the contrary ... they are now in jail," Minister Cristian Ritondo said in a statement.

Four men and two women were arrested in connection with the alleged operation, police said.

Police also seized two firearms and two vehicles allegedly used to distribute the drugs.
