Columbine School Shooting Survivor Found Dead 20 Years After Massacre

Austin Eubanks was shot in the hand and knee in Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999.
A man who survived the Columbine school shooting was found dead in his home — 20 years after the devastating massacre.
Austin Eubanks, 37, died at his Steamboat Springs home in Colorado, the Routt County coroner confirmed Saturday. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Eubanks was shot in the hand and knee in Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. The attack left a teacher and 12 students dead, including Eubanks' best friend, the Associated Press reported.
After surviving the shooting, Eubanks began taking prescription pain medication while recovering from his injuries. He became addicted to drugs, but he later worked at an addiction treatment center to help others beat the disease.
In a statement, Eubanks' family said he "lost the battle with the very disease he fought so hard to help others face," KMGH-TV reported.
"We thank the recovery community for its support. As you can imagine, we are beyond shocked and saddened," the family added.
