There are long lines of people looking for jobs everywhere. But it's not all doom and gloom. There are jobs out there; you just have to know where to look.
"Networking is key, not being afraid to get out there and let people know who you are and what you want to do," said CellularSales national recruiter Laura Lynn Riden.
The areas with the most job openings right now are healthcare, accounting, hospitality, and retail.
Terry Lundgren, CEO of Macy's, says, "This time of year—the holiday season—is a gigantic opportunity to improve the unemployment rate in America."
Macy's is hiring 78,000 temporary workers for the holiday season, a bump of four percent over last year, and it's not just Macy's. Nationwide, there will be 500,000 temporary retail positions up for grabs this year.
"Job experts say that sometimes if all you can get is a temporary job, get it, because it could be a toe in the door for a permanent job. Is it possible that some of these Christmas jobs will turn into fulltime jobs for people?" INSIDE EDITION's Deborah Norville asked Lundgren.
"Definitely, we expect that we will employ some number of the 78,000 that we're hiring temporarily, some percent of that group will, in fact, stay on. That's how you find talent," Lundgren said.
It's the busiest time of the year for party supply chain Party City. Now Party City is hiring 15,000 seasonal workers and they're seeing a big increase in applications from older workers with impressive resumes who are desperate for work.
Dennis Lattmann, HR Manager at Party City, said, "It's definitely been a good thing because we've seen some experience out there that we've been able to incorporate into our temporary associate population.
Wherever your job search takes you, all our experts agree on their number one tip–stay positive!
Lundgren said, "The one thing you control every single day when you wake up in the morning is your attitude. That's the one thing you have full control of and so I always say on a one to ten scale, where are you? And if you're less than a six or seven stay home. I'm looking for sevens and eights and above."
