Joaquin Phoenix Apologizes to David Letterman

Joaquin Phoenix made his first visit to David Letterman since his bizarre visit in February of 2009, and he now admits his eccentric behavior was part of an elaborate hoax. INSIDE EDITION reports.

"I apologize, I hope I didn't offend you in any way," Joaquin Phoenix tells David Letterman.

Phoenix came clean, admitting that his bizarre and infamous appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman in February of 2009 was an elaborate hoax.

The Oscar®-nominated actor caused a stir when he came on the show wearing sunglasses and with his face covered by a big, bushy beard. He seemed totally out of it.

"Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight," cracked Letterman.

Now, Phoenix admits it was all an act, part of a mock documentary he was making with Casey Affleck called I'm Still Here.

Letterman was good humored about the hoax, but dead-panned that he now expects to be paid.

"Well now you owe me a million bucks!" he said.
