A tourist has died after falling down a flight of stairs while reportedly trying to take a selfie at the famed Taj Mahal site in India.
Hideto Ueda, a 66-year-old Japanese national, was snapping the photograph at the 17th-century monument’s royal gate when he and a friend fell in the afternoon, according to an eyewitness who spoke to the BBC. Ueda was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. His friend suffered a fractured leg.
Sushant Gaur, a police official in Agra, told AFP-Jiji, “He was rushed in an ambulance to the hospital but he could not be revived.
"A postmortem was carried out and the cause of death is heart attack. We have duly informed the Japanese Embassy about the unfortunate incident,” said Gaur.
The Japanese embassy was notified of Ueda’s death, and an investigation is being conducted.
