Mexican Drug Lord 'El Chapo' Has Been Recaptured

Drug lord Joaquin Guzman has been re-arrested in Mexico.

Drug lord Joaquin Guzman, known on the streets as "El Chapo," has been re-arrested, according to Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

The president wrote on Twitter that Guzman was found six months after he managed to escape from a maximum security prison on July 11, 2015.

The escape was a huge embarrassment for Nieto’s administration.

"Mission accomplished: we have him,” wrote the president on Friday.

Guzman was recaptured after a shootout with Mexican marines in Guzman's home state of Sinaloa. Guzman was in "good condition,” according to a spokesman for the marines.

Five people were killed and one Mexican marine was wounded in the raid, CBS News reported. The marine's injuries weren't life- threatening.

The marines who raided a home before dawn acted on a tip, according to the Mexican Navy.

They were fired on from inside the home. Six people were arrested in the raid.
