A three-year-old Florida boy was found in just a shirt and diaper riding a motorized big wheel while trying to enter traffic on a highway.
The toddler was still sitting behind the wheel of his toy when deputies from Citrus County responded to U.S. Highway 19 in Crystal River, where several vehicles had formed a blockade to prevent him from going any further on the busy roadway, according to reports.
He had been covered by a blanket and was sitting at a median when officials arrived. He was not struck in any way and he was not harmed, witnesses told deputies.
The child’s father reportedly told deputies that he was in the bathroom at their home when his son, who was alone in the living room, used his little chair to reach the front door’s locks and left.
When the dad saw the door open, he immediately went out to search for his son, WFTS wrote.
The man set out on bicycle and made his way toward Highway 19, where he saw vehicles surrounding his son. He approached and took custody of his child.
The father was not charged in the incident, but the Department of Children and Families is reportedly investigating.
Neither the father nor the son’s name had been released because the case remains under investigation, the television station reported.
