The dog named Maya waited for six days outside a hospital in Alicante, Spain, as her owner, Sandra Inesta, recovered from emergency appendix surgery.

During the ordeal, Maya’s father, Andreas Inesta, tried to bring the Japanese Akita Inu home but she would not leave the hospital.

The breed is known for its loyalty, but 2-year-old Maya took it to a whole new level.

The hospital posted about the dog on Facebook to showcase the dedication that Maya had for her owner. She became a local celebrity after the post.

Andres told the local Alicante newspaper: "I think she knows what is happening and she is showing that she can be patient. She’s a fully paid-up member of the family."
