Close Encounter of the Criminal Kind: Video Captures Burglars in Home - as Kids Sleep Nearby

One of the burglars was seen with a gun during the home invasion.

A Florida grandfather is still recovering from the shock of his life when two burglars broke into his home as his grandchildren were sound asleep in the room.

Al Vera’s home surveillance cameras in Rockledge captured the images of two armed man burglarizing his house while his two grandchildren, ages 10 and 13, were sleeping on sofas.

Vera told Inside Edition: "That really freaked us out when we saw that. We couldn’t believe it."

The incident happened at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Vera and his grandkids were all home and sleeping during the frightening event. He discovered the burglary the next day as he was reviewing the surveillance tapes.

He told Inside Edition: "The police said, ‘thank God you didn’t wake up or that my wife didn’t wake up.’ They said we probably would have been shot."

After prowling around the home for several minutes, the burglars took off with a cell phone, a gun, and credit cards.
