A mother and her young daughter were found drowned in the swimming pool of a Florida apartment complex over the weekend and police are investigating how the tragedy occurred.
The 31-year-old and her 5-year-old daughter were spotted floating in the pool Sunday by two residents of the Coral Springs complex at about 3:30 p.m., officials said.
The men administered CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the victims to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
"They are residents here. They did go down to the pool early this afternoon," said Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek. "At this time, it’s possible they were under the water over an hour."
Police notified the victims’ family on Sunday evening, WSVN reports.
Police have not said why or how the victims ended up in the pool. They remained at the complex into the evening as they interviewed residents Sunday evening.
Resident Maja Petrovic, who did not know the victims, told WSVN she'd seen the mother and daughter at the pool multiple times.
"If we only looked for just a few minutes, before they drowned, we would have wanted to help them, to rescue them," she said.
