Video has emerged of the rescue of a South Carolina woman who police say was kept chained "like a dog" in a shipping container by a suspected serial killer.
Cops say Kala Brown spent two months on property owned by Todd Kohlhepp in late 2016 after he allegedly lured her and her boyfriend there with the offer of a job.
But instead, Brown's boyfriend, Charlie Carver, was shot dead by Kohlhepp, who then bound Brown at the ankles, wrists and neck before sexually assaulting her, police said.
Footage released by police in South Carolina shows officers as they discover Brown in that state, months after she and Carver vanished.
“He didn’t want to kill me, he wanted to keep me,” Brown told Dr. Phil in February. “That’s why I did what I had to do to survive.”
Brown says she spent her days on a dog bed and using a 5-gallon bucket as a bathroom. For food, she says Kohlhepp gave her just crackers and moldy cheese.
After reportedly witnessing the murder of her boyfriend and clinging to life amid sub-human conditions, Brown was rescued on November 3.
Video from the rescue shows police as they use bolt cutters to remove heavy chains from around Brown's neck.
Brown said he had prepared the metal shipping container for an extended stay.
“He had a lot of shelving with dried food and rations and stuff, and lots of bottles of water,” Brown said. “He took me all the way in the back. He left me bound and he also put a chain around my neck.”
Ultimately, Brown said that Kohlhepp hoped she would one day fall in love with him.
Kohlhepp has allegedly confessed to killing as many as seven people, police said. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder in May and remains in custody.
