A co-ed was granted a stalking order from a judge after she claimed her parents were relentlessly following her every move. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
The pretty college student who actually got a stalking order against her own parents is now speaking out.
21-year-old Aubrey Ireland is a music theater major at the University of Cincinnati. She spoke by phone to Good Morning America.
Aubrey said, "They basically thought that because they were paying for my college tuition and living expenses that they could tell me what to do, who to hang out with and, you know, basically control all of my daily life."
Now, a judge has issued a stalking order against Aubrey’s parents after they admitted that to "make sure she succeeded” they installed monitoring software on her computer and phone.
Aubrey's parents are ordered to stay 500 feet away from their only daughter at all times.
She told the judge she felt "like I was a dog with a collar on."
Clinical psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere told INSIDE EDITION, "I believe that that was the nail in the coffin of a relationship with her parents. That being said, perhaps she had no choice."
Aubrey Ireland’s parents often drove 600 miles from their home in Kansas to visit their daughter unannounced at her college in Ohio. She's a Dean's List student and a star in school musicals, but her parents accused her of drug use, promiscuity, and claimed she had mental problems.
But Aubrey says her parents are obsessed with her.
"My mom has always been very overly involved. And I would have to get on Skype all the time and show them that I was in my dorm room or, like, there were nights I had to leave my Skype on all night and my mom would watch me basically sleep," she said.
She says things got so bad that the University hired security guards to keep her parents away from her performances.
Her parents are now demanding she return the $66,000 they spent on her tuition.
This isn't the first bitter legal battle that's divided parent and child.
In October, 14-year-old Modern Family star, Ariel Winter, won a restraining order against her mom and moved out of her Los Angeles home. She accused her mother of physical and emotional abuse, but her mom denies it.
Aubrey Ireland’s mom and dad call themselves "loving parents" and say their daughter is "a good actor and lying."
The judge says Aubrey is an adult and is allowed to live her life as she chooses.
Aubrey said, "I never wanted this to happen. That's the last thing I wanted, but I wasn't in control of my life at all anymore."
