When Colton Burpo was 4-years-old, he claims to have seen Heaven during a near death experience and now that incredible story has been turned into the film, Heaven Is For Real. INSIDE EDITION sits down with Burpo.
It’s the new movie about one boy’s extraordinary claim, that Heaven is for real, because he was there.
Heaven is For Real , starring Greg Kinnear, is based on the best-selling book of the same name, about the near-death experience of little Colton Burpo.
Colton sat down with INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander, who asked him, “You really went to Heaven?”
Colton replied, “Yes.”
Colton is 14 years old today. When he was just four, he was rushed to the hospital with a ruptured appendix where surgeons fought to save his life. That’s when Colton says he left his body and went to Heaven.
Alexander asked, “What was it like?"
"Well, Heaven is such an amazing place.” Colton replied. “I mean, there's people, angels, animals. There's pretty much everything up there.”
Colton's description of Heaven has been met with some skepticism. He says everyone in Heaven was wearing wings and that Jesus was riding a rainbow colored horse.
Colton continued, "There's so many colors in Heaven. I mean, the colors in Heaven, they have even more then we have down here on earth."
Colton's dad,Todd Burpo, who was a pastor, says he became convinced of the story when his son described looking down on him in the hospital, as he prayed for his son's life.
Alexander asked Todd, "You believe your son saw Heaven?"
"Absolutely." Todd said. "I remember that first trip for eight hours I tried to explain it away. It took me eight hours for me to finally say, okay, this is true.
Todd's book Heaven is For Real was a sensation when it was released three years ago. It's been on the New York Times best sellers list even since, selling eight million copies.
He says Colton's story gives people hope. Todd told Alexander, "When people are hurting, people need hope. It's been amazing how many levels we've been able to give people hope on."
