Art Imitates Life in 'The Batman' as Gotham’s Crimes Echo Attacks on Asians in NYC

“The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves, is being called “the darkest Batman yet.” In the highly anticipated movie, the focus is on a crime wave in the big city of Gotham. Some are saying the film reminds them of New York, which has seen a spike in crime over the last few years. In one scene, a gang surrounds an Asian person in the subway before they’re stopped by Batman. In the real New York, there have been a string of horrific attacks on Asian Americans.
