Mollie Tibbetts' Father Believes She Is With Someone She 'Trusted'
She has been missing since July 18.
The father of missing Iowa jogger Mollie Tibbetts believes she is alive and with someone she knows.
The 20-year-old has been missing since July 18, when she disappeared after going for a run near her boyfriend's Brooklyn home.
"I think someone went to the house that Mollie knew or that Mollie trusted and that she left with them willingly," Robert Tibbetts, Mollie's father, told CBS News. "Now they're in over their head and they don't know what to do."
The reward for information leading to finding Mollie has reached $260,000.
"My two cents is that no one went into that house to hurt her,” Robert told Fox News. “That there was some kind of misunderstanding about the nature of their relationship and at this point they don't know how to get out from under this.”
On Sunday, police found the body of a young white woman in her 20s, but it turned out not to be the missing college student.
Law enforcement officials have repeatedly combed through fields and hog farms in Deep River, Iowa, about a 20-minute drive from where Mollie was last seen, but have declined to say why they are focusing on those areas.
“As leads come in, and information is evaluated, the investigative team responds to those and prioritizes those," Iowa Department of Public Safety official Kevin Winker told CBS News. “I would expect those searches to continue."
Farm owner Wayne Cheney has been questioned by police two times, he told Fox News.
"I don't even remember what they asked me," he told WHO-TV of his interactions with law enforcement, noting he did not know Mollie. "It was a waste of my time, I know that."
